AUDIENCE & AGENDA: The Center for American Progress is a liberal political research and advocacy group. John Podesta is the President and CEO. He served as Chief of Staff to the former President Bill Clinton. It is a known fact that many of the new members of the Obama Administration are staff or former staff from the Center for American Progress. The organization also has a campus branch called Campus Progress. The website for the Center for American Center for Progress describes it as “a nonpartisan research and educational institute dedicated to promoting a strong, just and free America that ensures opportunity for all.” (http://www.americanprogress.org/.) The Center for American Progress operates a daily email newsletter, The Progress Report, which covers political, environmental, and activist news. The main sources of funding for this organization are individuals, corporations, and foundations. It is reported the center receives about $25 million a year from donors. TIME Magazine recently described the Center for American Progress as being the most powerful and influential group at this time.
USEFULNESS: This is a powerful photograph for my project. Being the President of the United States is probably one of the most demanding and time-consuming jobs there is. However, Barack Obama set aside the time in his busy schedule to visit a source of renewable energy and green jobs in another state. This action says volumes about his commitment to promoting a greener economy. Obama seems to be focused and determined about addressing the current economic crisis by promoting green jobs. The photograph speaks for itself.
